In August a group of Touring Network Promoters travelled to Edinburgh to attend the Fringe, with the intention of seeing a variety of shows that might be suitable for touring to the Highlands.

Juliette from Ardross Community Hall, and Jenny & Anna from the Ceilidh House in Arnisdale were particularly interested in seeing contemporary dance work, while Yvonne & Nadine from Strathpeffer Pavilion, Petria from Ardross Community Hall and Kresanna from Findhorn Bay Arts were keen to see a wide range of shows: from indoor ticketed events, to un-ticketed pop-up shows, and outdoor performances too.

When they returned, we asked them what they got out of the experience, and they had this to say:

“It was fantastic to see a range of performances, from intimate early years shows to large scale Edinburgh Festival premieres – to gain new inspiration, see new work and to network with companies, artists and producers too.”

Kresanna Aigner, Findhorn Bay Arts

“I saw some really good shows (and some not so good ones! ), and have made contact with a few Companies about the possibility of bringing their shows up to the Highlands.”

Juliette Lowe, Ardross Community Hall

“This year was exceptional for the Pavilion – out of all the shows we saw there was not one we wanted to escape from! The performances were exceptional. It’s so much easier to promote a show when you know it’s good calibre. Also helps to see if the show will fit your venue/audience i.e. stage layout/tech requirements.”

Yvonne Potter, Strathpeffer Pavilion

“I saw lots of fabulous shows – 13 in all over 4 days – and really pleased with my selection, which was mostly taken from the Made in Scotland showcase and the recommended 2016 Fringe list from Tourbook. I also saw a couple of shows outside of this list which either appealed or I had seen work by the artist/company before.”

Petria Brooke-Carr, Ardross Community Hall
