Charlie McKerron, Jonny Hardie & Davy Cattanach
28 July, 2016 @ 8:30 pm
FreeWe are delighted to have with us Charlie McKerron (Cappercaillie & Session A9), Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs & Catford) and Davy Cattanach (Old Blind Dogs & Catford). They will be playing together to bring some fantastic folk music to the Old Bridge Inn. Below is a wee bit about each artist to tickle the tastebuds for what is to come!
Charlie McKerron is a key member of the highly successful Capercaillie but has collaborated with many other musicians and played with other noted bands such as SessionA9. Charlie was brought up with the Northeast fiddle tradition learning from his father and Great uncle but has immersed himself in the Gaelic tradition with Capercaillie and in doing so has helped to bring this music to high acclaim on the International stage.
Jonny Hardie was brought up in Aberdeenshire – an area of Scotland culturally rich in ballads and fiddle tunes. At the age of eight, Jonny started playing fiddle. After leaving school he studied viola at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. Jonny then returned to Aberdeen to concentrate on traditional music and soon became involved in various local bands. It was during this time that Old Blind Dogs were formed, along with Ian Benzie and Buzzby McMillan.
Davy Cattanach has played a wide variety of musical genres with bands like the Squibs, 30 Footers and Mojo Pep. In the early 1990’s he joined the Scottish folk band, The Old Blind Dogs, bringing congo’s, djembe and talking drums to the mix, underpinning Jonny Hardies fiddle and Ian F Benzies vocals and accompanied by Grant McMillan’s cittern & bass.
