The marvellous SCO return for their annual summer visit. The programme this year includes work from GRIEG Holberg Suite, Op 40; CRUSELL Clarinet Concerto No 2 in F minor; LARSSON Pastoral Suite, Op 19; SCHUBERT Symphony No 3 in D with Gérard Korsten conducting and Maximiliano Martín on solo clarinet.
There’s a distinct Scandinavian flavour to this sunny, lyrical programme from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The Norwegian Edvard Grieg created a tribute to the 17th century playwright Holberg when writing his delightful Suite. Finn Bernard Crusell’s Romantic Clarinet Concerto will be a joy in the hands of SCO Principal Clarinet Maximiliano Martín. Lars-Erik Larsson was a cornerstone of Swedish musical life in the early twentieth century and his Pastoral Suite is inspired by poetry. The concert closes with Schubert’s joyful Third Symphony.
