SKYE FESTIVAL: TRADITIONAL MUSIC CONCERT ‘ROUTES’
2 August, 2016 @ 8:00 pm
Anne Martin, Gaelic singer from Kilmuir, Skye, and Jason Singh explore a world of commonality through human experience by weaving Gaelic song, Beatboxing, Electronica and Indian Raga/Folk to produce an exciting, fresh and rooted creative performance. Music, conversation and song articulate the struggle for land, culture and identity experienced by the Highlanders of Scotland during periods of clearance and through the partition of Northern India.
The concert opens with this year’s Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Brighde Chaimbeul, who was raised in Sleat and now lives in Kyle. Brighde is a truly astonishingly talented 17 year old piper. She studies at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh and is one of the 5 members of the Campbell all of whom have made their mark on the Scottish Traditional and Gaelic music scene.
