The Rubber Wellies

29 June, 2016 @ 8:30 pm

Free

The Rubber Wellies will be bringing a wonderful and happy vibe for everyone to enjoy on a relaxed summer evening. In January 2016, the band shortened their name from Harry Bird and The Rubber Wellies to The Rubber Wellies.

The Rubber Wellies are a travelling folk band, who over the last seven years has cheered audiences all over from Galway in Ireland to Gisborne in New Zealand. It all started in 2008 with an initial line-up of Harry Bird, Christophe Capewell and Maria Blackwell (wellies, get it?!).

After the success of “Long Way to Be Free” (2009) and “The Bones on Black” (2012), their third studio album, “Bricks and Feathers”, was released in May 2015 with the help of the usual crew of far flung welly misfits. Their shifting line-up now sees them perform as an intimate duo, a stomping seven-piece or anything in between. Regulars on tour in recent years include: Ian “Dodge” Paterson (all kinds of bass), Jamie Bird (banjo, mandolin), Heather St John (vocals), Adam Downey (percussion) and Kate Theodore (fiddle).
