Yola Carter

27 June, 2017 @ 8:30 pm

£10

A force of nature and an incredibly talented singer-songwriter, Yola Carter was raised on gospel and is a greatly in-demand singer and writer on the dance scene.

However, country and soul from the likes of The Band, Gillian Welch, Staple Singers, Emmylou Harris, Otis Redding and Dolly Parton has always been her true passion and she embarked on the latest chapter of her career as a solo Americana artist in early 2016.

Her slow-burn launch became a whirlwind when she was chosen to represent the UK at the prestigious Americana Music Association showcase in Nashville in September, generating a huge music industry buzz. As a result she ended the year with a string of accolades in the US media much more established artists would kill for and was named UK Artist Of The Year by The Americana Music Association UK in February.

A firm favourite at Perth’s Southern Fried Festival, Yola loves Scotland and brought the house down at Roaming Roots Revue at Celtic Connections in January – “the most memorable and unbelievable of showstoppers” (The Skinny). She is very excited about this acoustic trio tour with Kit Hawes and Harry Harding: “Scotland is one of my favourite places to play. It’s a place where the folk tradition is alive and kicking and open to so much music.”

“A phenomenal talent, drawing on gospel, soul and country inflections”  The Independent
“A voice to die for…it could be likened to Aretha Franklin. She is that good.”  Maverick
“Country gospel with the driving energy of old-fashioned soul music”  The Guardian
“Authentic Americana with a British soul” ****  The Times
