____ is where the heart is

18 July, 2019 @ 7:00 pm

By donation

The body you’re born into and the place you live determines who you are.

There’s no way to be a quiet rebel in a village.

Everything you do becomes a statement.

There’s no opportunity to experiment with who you are when you’re amongst closed minds. I don’t live amongst prejudice. People have to be taught to hate. And they don’t hate something that they don’t know exists.

‘____ is where the heart’ is a co-production between Creative Electric and Birds of Paradise Theatre Company.

This unique piece of theatre is informed by each of the areas it visits. For its trip to Drumnadrochit it will be taking residence in the Craigmonie Centre , running workshops with local comunity and visiting Glen Urquhart Care Centre.

Participants will be invited to the ‘_____ is where the heart is’ pop up recording studio to record stories and memories of their home – the people who make it special, the local folklore and the moments that have gone down in local history. These stories will then be incorporated into the performance – each community will have a performance that is entirely unique to them. Details of when to pop in to the Craigmonie Centre to explore the recording installation and chat to the company ahead of the performances will be posted soon.

This event is wheelchair accessible.

My city and me.
I want change.
A place with real people.
Who stop and smile and say hello.
Who know me.
Really know me.

I saw it on tv. Amish teenagers, when they turn 18, go on a right of passage to the city. They go for a year and try all the things they don’t have at home – clubs, going to the cinema, shopping centres, trains… And if they like it they stay and if they don’t then they go back to their families and are baptised into the Amish faith.

I feel like that’s what I need. I love it here, its beautiful, but how can I know who I am and how I want to live until I’ve experienced other ways of life? It’s a case of unrequited love.
