You may (or may not!) know that this year Glasgow and Berlin are hosting the European Championships, a new multi-sport event. This programme has a cultural programme funded through Glasgow Life, which, although smaller, aims to connect and engage with a wide range of people in much the same way as the Commonwealth Games cultural programme. The Nevis Ensemble is Scotland’s only Street Orchestra and are part of that cultural programme.

The Nevis Ensemble is different. There’s nothing else quite like it in Scotland. Its vision is “music for everyone, everywhere”.

Removing barriers to accessing orchestral music means bringing it to where people are, and when they are there. Just think; you could have 40 young and energetic musicians running out of a bus, instruments in hand, and less than five minutes later your community hears something incredible and unexpected. Everyone leaves feeling uplifted and inspired, proud of the community to which they belong. Full-scale, 40-piece orchestral performances of the best, most diverse music you can imagine: popping up and surprising locals on the school run; guerrilla-style appearances in village halls; generating public audiences in public spaces.

This is a unique chance to have a 40 piece orchestra in your community! We are looking for a handful of promoters, ideally on the West Coast or somewhere between Fort William and Glasgow to host a pop up performance on Sun 5 or Mon 6 August 2018. There is no fee for the performance, and if required, The Touring Network can support promoters with a small bursary to provide refreshments for the musicians.

Consider this a Touring Network birthday gift!

Check out Nevis Ensemble’s tour page on tourbook, and send them a message if you’re interested. If you’re able to host a performance, get in touch with Rhiannon to discuss a bursary.
